13P (www.13P.org) is a collaborative effort by some of today’s most
impressive playwrights who have decided to take matters into their
own hands and produce their own plays on their own terms. That’s
good news for Winter Miller, one of the 13 playwrights, because it
is unlikely that her “THE PENETRATION PLAY” would be seen at
traditional venues. Laced with sophisticated sarcasm and laden
with sexual tension, this work may be a little too honest and raw
for the average theatregoer, and it’s definitely not a “Red State”
play!

Ashley (Mia Barron) and Rain (Mandy Siegfried) are spending the last
weekend of summer at the house of Ashley’s mother (Kathryn Grody) on
the Jersey shore. While Ashley romanticizes her rekindled
relationship with a past suitor and Maggie settles for a totally
unsatisfying relationship with Ashley’s father, Rain decides to
step out of the box and claim what she really wants. One person’s
honesty takes away the option of the gray area for the other two.
Maggie and Ashley are left with black or white choices. Once the
truth has been revealed, they can either pursue that truth or
continue in their current paths knowing they are living a lie.

Miller has taken a “touchy” subject, turned it inside out, and
presented multi-faceted characters that are both humorous and
tragic. Direction by Josh Hecht keeps pace with the tumultuous
emotional upheaval of the three ladies. If you’re looking for
something other than the usual theatre fare and can appreciate both
on-target acting and pushing-the-envelope subject matter, THE
PENETRATION PLAY
is for you.
